While she sadly has not recovered the heirlooms, she did receive an "amazing" surprise that left her emotional
Bride-to-be Crista Detellis was "devastated" when the sentimental family heirlooms she planned to wear on her wedding day were stolen. Since then, she says she's found a "silver lining" to the upsetting incident in the overwhelming support and offers of help she has received — including an unexpected surprise from David's Bridal.
In a series of Instagram posts shared in late January and early February, Detellis, an entrepreneur and podcaster, detailed the saga, which began with her plan of wearing her mom's 40-year-old wedding dress and her late grandmother's 75-year-old bridal headpiece for her walk down the aisle.
That all changed when she discovered the items had gone missing from the mailroom of her Las Vegas apartment building.

"My wedding dress got stolen. … Tell me why I was already planning the 'something borrowed' moment…and now I'm planning a crime documentary instead," she wrote in one post on Jan. 31, adding, "I have been mourning all week of course we are devastated."

In a second video on Feb. 1, Detellis shared more, claiming that a resident of her apartment complex stole the items from the mailroom on Jan. 31 after they were shipped to her by her mom. When she took up the issue at the complex's front desk, she was told that security cameras showed that a man with key fob access to the building took the package at 1 a.m. on Jan. 31.

While the man could not be identified from the footage, cameras captured his car pulling up to the complex, and Detellis was eventually able to identify him after locating his car in the lot. She claimed the man "denied" taking the package, resulting in building staff telling her that there was nothing more they could do about the situation.
She did say, however, that she planned to file a police report.

Detellis shared in the Feb. 1 video that her mom was "so devastated" when she learned the news that the dress and headpiece had been stolen. "It broke her heart," she recalled. "It's just gut-wrenching."

In the wake of losing the "irreplaceable" family heirlooms, Detellis received an outpouring of kindness from total strangers offering to help her. "Local pawn shop owners and vintage store owners sending me screenshots. Strangers scanning Facebook Marketplace and eBay for listings. Lawyers reaching out for advice. Local news stations offering coverage," she wrote in a Feb. 4 post.
Someone even offered to remake her mom's dress "from scratch," she said.
"Thank you for not letting this be dismissed as 'just a package.' It wasn’t. It was a piece of my family’s history 💔," Detellis added in the post.
Speaking of the public response to her story, Detellis told local outlet FOX 5, “Everybody that came together online, it was just so overwhelming in the best way. It turned something that was such a horrible situation into something so amazing.”
Among those who reached out to her to offer assistance was a Las Vegas-area David's Bridal store. Detellis was invited to the location near Palace Station and gifted a new wedding gown of her choice, valued up to $3,500, along with accessories, per FOX 5. A video shared by the outlet shows her getting emotional as she tried on dresses while her mom and friend looked on.
“There are good people in this world. There are bad people. Somebody stole the dress, yes, but because of people like David’s Bridal and all the community online, there’s a silver lining,” Dettelis said. “It turned the worst thing into the best. I mean, I feel like Cinderella, so I couldn’t ask for anything more.”
The Las Vegas Metro Police Department (LVMPD) previously told FOX 5 that Dettelis' case was under investigation as grand larceny.
