Adam DiMarco and Camila Morrone play fiancés Nicky and Rachel in the new Netflix horror series Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen

Breaking down the finale, Morrone tells PEOPLE about two scenes in which her costar's character gave her the "ick" and was "such a loser"

Adam DiMarco sells his performance in the finale of Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen almost too well, at least by Camila Morrone's standards.

The new Netflix horror series stars DiMarco and Morrone as fiancés Nicky and Rachel and traces the five-day countdown to their wedding.

In the final episode, the curse on Rachel's family — if they don't marry their soulmate, they die — spreads to Nicky's, and he watches his mother (Jennifer Jason Leigh) and sister (Gus Birney) die painful, bloody deaths. Nicky initially didn't buy into the curse that Rachel discovered about her family, but after watching his mom die, he forced her to go through with the wedding, thus killing her too.

He's left bereft, though Rachel comes back to life— and signs point to her becoming the new immortal warden of the curse — and the scenes that follow icked Morrone out.

After Rachel revived herself, she walks to her and Nicky's bedroom, still wearing her blood-stained wedding dress, to find her lighter. She finds her husband lying on the bed, cuddling a teddy bear, shock and horror written all over his face.

As DiMarco, 35, tells PEOPLE in a joint interview with Morrone, "I don't think he even knows if what he sees is real."

Regardless, Nicky is "such a loser in that last scene," Morrone, 28, says. "I hate watching that last scene. Nicky's such a loser."

It's a reaction that surprises DiMarco. "Really?" he asks his costar. "God. I mean, he's trying his best."

There is one other scene, though, that Morrone dubs even harder to watch. "When I saw you with your mom, I got the worst ick," she says, referring to the scene in which Nicky is totally panicked, pacing by his mom's bedside as she bleeds out. "It icked me out. I was like, 'I am done with this man.'"

DiMarco is less surprised by that response. "I know. That's what I was trying to do," he says. "That was great."

As for what they think could happen next — in a possible season 2 or otherwise — DiMarco says showrunner Haley Z. Boston "could take this show in so many different ways."

"It could be a time cut, it could be a direct pickup, it could be another story, some other curse or something. Who knows? It could be like American Horror Story, where it's the same cast playing different characters. It's up to her, really."

"I like to think that Nicky does try and look for Rachel," Morrone says.

"Once he realizes that he wasn't hallucinating, maybe he tries to find her and just get some closure on what happened," DiMarco agrees. "I mean, he didn't die. He still believes that she's his soulmate. And she may realize that later too. Who knows?"

Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen is "horror’s take on a woman becoming a wife," in the vein of Carrie being "horror’s version of a girl becoming a woman, and Rosemary’s Baby [being] the horrific version of a woman becoming a mother," per its official synopsis.
