The instance took place during their Monday, Nov. 3 performance in Boston — the second of her two shows at the MGM Music Hall — after the pop star revealed that she had spent the night in the ER ahead of the show due to an acute medical emergency.
Per fan-captured TikTok video, Halsey, 31, who uses she/they pronouns, was speaking to the crowd when a fan shouted “stop talking and play."
They then addressed the person from the stage.
“You think you’re tough s--- because you’re from Boston? I’m from Jersey, baby. I’ll whoop your ass. My dad’s from Boston, my mom’s from Jersey — that basically makes me a fucking demon," said Halsey.
She added: "I’m gonna play whatever the f--- I wanna play. In case you didn’t hear me correctly, I almost f---ing died to be on this stage. I’m going to play whatever the f--- I wanna play.”
In an X post on Tuesday, Nov. 4, Halsey also appeared to address the situation with a play on words of her 2019 song "Nightmare" writing, "I’ve been polite but won’t be caught dead letting a man tell me what I should play in my set."
