If you thought the days of matching prices to get great deals were over, think again.
“Most people think price matching died years ago, but that’s wrong,” said Andrew Lokenauth, founder of Fluent in Finance. “The strategy just evolved. Best Buy remains the gold standard with their Holiday Price Match Guarantee. During my years on Wall Street, I watched retailers shift from competing on price matches to hiding them in fine print, but the smart money still uses these policies.”
Read on to see how Lokenauth shared ways to get your money back with price matches at some popular stores.
Best Buy
“Best Buy matches prices from major competitors like Amazon, Target and Walmart for about 15 days after purchase,” he said. “I personally saved $180 on a laptop just by checking their site daily after my purchase. The price dropped $200 three days later and one quick chat with customer service got me the refund.”

Home Depot and Lowe’s
Lokenauth noted that Home Depot and Lowe’s offer something better. He said they match competitor prices plus give you an extra 10%.
Staples
“Staples takes it further with their 110% guarantee,” Lokenauth explained. “Find an item cheaper elsewhere and they’ll match it plus give you 10% of the difference.”
Target
According to Lokenauth, Target changed their policy in July 2025.
“They now only price match their own stores and website, not competitors,” he said. “This means you can’t walk in with an Amazon price anymore. But here’s the trick: Target’s own prices fluctuate. Buy something, track it for 14 days and if Target drops the price, you get the difference back.”
Costco
If you shop at Costco, Lokenauth wanted you to know they give you 30 days to request a price adjustment if they lower the price on something you bought from Costco.com. He said the catch is they won’t match between their warehouse and online prices. You need to buy and track within the same channel.
