Is Lady Danbury Leaving Bridgerton? Netflix
In the final moments of season four, Lady Danbury (Adjoa Andoh) is seen packing up her home. “I long to travel… to visit my ancestral home. I have not been there since I was four years old,” she told Queen Charlotte (Golda Rosheuvel) at the start of the season. Does this mean Lady Danbury is leaving Bridgerton?
No, thankfully. “I want to say very clearly that we have no intentions of Adjoa stepping back,” showrunner Jess Brownell told Deadline. “She’s still absolutely a part of the story in Season 5. It was more about wanting to explore the dynamic between a friendship in which there’s a power imbalance, which is very on theme with this season, where we’re looking at the relationship between servants and their employers. The Queen and Lady Danbury are real friends, but because of the power imbalance, it was interesting to explore what happens when Lady Danbury wants to do something for herself. It was an opportunity to explore new depth for their friendship.”

It could mean, however, that Bridgerton will explore more of Lady Danbury’s backstory, as was first introduced in Queen Charlotte. In the prequel, which premiered in 2023, viewers learn that Agatha, whose birth name is Soma, is of royal heritage, and from the Kpa-Mende Bo tribe in Sierra Leone. “Having that backstory was lovely for me,” Andoh told Town & Country. “It also reflects there was a lot of traffic between posh-o families in Africa and posh-o families through Europe. It wasn’t all through enslaved narratives—hierarchy will find hierarchy, [even] in the 19th century. It was interesting to just put a little glimpse of that into our story.”
She added, “I’m so proud to be on a show that goes: We are a diverse, complex, gorgeous, interesting world, and we want all of it to be seen, heard, and celebrated.”
