The bodies of Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner were discovered by their daughter. Hours later, their son would be arrested and eventually charged with their murders.
Rob and Michele were killed in their home in Los Angeles' Brentwood neighborhood on Sunday, Dec. 14. Their bodies were found that afternoon by their daughter Romy, who then called 911, sources tell PEOPLE.
According to the Los Angeles Police Department, both Rob and Michele were found dead in the home at about 3:40 p.m. Sunday.
Police subsequently said the couple's son Nick Reiner was identified as the suspect. At 9:15 p.m., more than five hours after the bodies were found, Nick was arrested.
On Friday, Nick was charged with murder in connection with his parents' deaths.
Multiple sources tell PEOPLE that Nick and his parents attended a Christmas party at the home of Conan O'Brien the night before the alleged murders. The sources confirmed that Nick and Rob got into an argument at the party.
Rob and Michele had been married since 1989, having met while Rob was directing When Harry Met Sally. They had three children together, including Romy and Nick.

Rob was an acclaimed director and actor, helming several well-regarded films, including This Is Spinal Tap (1984), Stand By Me (1986), The Princess Bride (1987) and A Few Good Men (1992). He had his first breakthrough in Hollywood starring as Mike "Meathead" Stivic on the sitcom All in the Family.
Rob's father was legendary comedian Carl Reiner, who died in 2020.
“It is with profound sorrow that we announce the tragic passing of Michele and Rob Reiner," the Reiner family said in a statement obtained by Variety. "We are heartbroken by this sudden loss, and we ask for privacy during this unbelievably difficult time."
