Nick Jonas knows how to deliver a gut-punching performance.
On Wednesday, Feb. 4, the 33-year-old singer appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and sang his latest solo single "Gut Punch."
Jonas started the moving performance at the piano, with a ballerina dancing around the stage and two percussionists in the background. Then, as the powerful chorus kicked in, he stood from his seat and had someone fill in for him on the piano as he belted out the lyrics.
"Hit me like a gut punch, I hurt my own feelings / How did I get so good at being mean to myself?" he sang. "I should turn the heat down, tell myself to chill out / Damn, I really hate the way I talk to myself."

Jonas released "Gut Punch" on Jan. 1 as the first single from his forthcoming album Sunday Best. The album — which is his first solo project in five years — is set for release on Feb. 6.
In the introspective song, the "Chains" singer contemplates his role as a father to Malti Marie, as a husband to Priyanka Chopra, as well as his sense of self-image.
"I tend to be hyper critical of myself, not typically about my appearance or getting older, but I was wondering, 'Am I doing everything to be the best version of myself? Am I a present and thoughtful husband? Am I a good father?' " the singer said in a statement upon the single's release.
He added, "As time goes by, the stress and complications of life will weigh on you. It’s important to remember there was once a version of you who was carefree and loved the world."
Sunday Best will be Jonas' first solo album since releasing Spaceman in 2021. Most recently, however, the Jonas Brothers released Greetings from Your Hometown in August 2025.

In December, when he announced the album, Jonas teased that the 11-track project — and said it was years in the making.
"I’m so excited to share these new stories, candid thoughts, quiet walks home in the city, and snapshots of my life over these past few years," he said in a statement at the time. "And while this album was made over the course of the last two years, it was truly 33 years in the making."
He also shared the cover art, which features him staring back at his reflection in the mirror, in an Instagram post.
