Susan Boyle is opening up about her recovery process after experiencing a stroke in 2022.

The 65-year-old vocal powerhouse and Britain's Got Talent alum recently made a grand return with a reimagined take on the Cornetto ice cream jingle for an advertisement, and she reflected on getting back in the spotlight after the stroke for a new interview with The Sun.

"It feels surreal to be here now," said Boyle, who experienced a stroke in April 2022 and spoke publicly about the incident the following year. "I never thought I would be able to come this far. I've had a lot of encouragement and the public have been so loving to me."

"I have had a lot of speech therapy," she detailed of her recovery. "It was difficult at first, but after the first few weeks, my voice slowly started to come back. I have been having a lot of vocal lessons, too, for my singing."

Boyle noted that her singing ability "still needs some work," but she's "sure" it will "come back."

"I am taking wee baby steps," she explained. "If you go too fast, too soon, you go down a hole. It took a while for my confidence to come back with my music. But I am getting there. Slowly."

The Scottish singer shared news of the stroke in June 2023 after returning to Britain's Got Talent for a performance of "I Dreamed a Dream" with the cast of the West End's Les Miserables.

"This evening was even more special for me as in April of 2022 I had a stroke," she wrote on Instagram at the time.

"For the past year I have worked so hard to get my speech and singing back, with the sole aim of being able to sing on stage again & tonight my hard work & perseverance paid off, singing the song that started it all, 'I Dreamed A Dream'…" continued Boyle's caption.

Elsewhere in her new interview with The Sun, the "Wild Horses" musician spoke about getting back in the studio for the Cornetto commercial.

"Music is my life," she said. "When I couldn't do it, I really missed it, so I can't tell you how good it feels to return."

Boyle also expressed interest in going on another tour in the future and teased, "I think I have got another album in me, for sure. It is something I do want to do, so I say, 'Bring it on.'"
