Ross MacDonald is giving back!

The 1975 bassist will bike over 1,000 miles from Land's End in England to John O'Groats in Scotland to raise money for the United Kingdom's largest music therapy charity, Nordoff & Robbins, per a press release obtained by PEOPLE.

MacDonald told NME in an interview published on Tuesday, Feb. 24 that he was inspired to do his upcoming charity bike ride by his own experience in therapy.

“Having been in therapy and various states of mental health myself, and having been around various people who have also experienced that, what I’ve learned about music therapy is that it’s such a viable way of administering treatment and helping people with real problems,” he told the outlet.

The bassist will be participating in the charity bike ride with Brian MacDonald of PVRIS and their friends Matt and Darren. The donations raised during the trek will go towards training music therapists.

The 1975 received the Best Group Award at the charity’s O2 Silver Clef Awards in 2024.

MacDonald also told NME about how he’s preparing for the massive bike ride, saying he’s “probably a little bit behind where I want to be, but that’s life.”

“My stamina is not necessarily the problem at this point, it’s getting a bike to fit so that I’m not in pain after a couple of hours,” he admitted.

“I’ve got my bike on this virtual trainer in the living room so I just stick the TV on and pedal,” the bassist said.

In addition to the charity effort, MacDonald is hard at work with The 1975’s forthcoming music. A viral TikTok video in December showed frontman Matty Healy telling a fan after a Q&A that the band has "made two albums," one seemingly named "DOGS."

MacDonald said in the interview that the band is "obviously working towards getting an album ready” but members have also been working on their own projects."
