Celine Dion is one of the most successful and recognized voices in music history. Born on March 30, 1968, in Charlemagne, Quebec, Canada, she was the youngest of 14 children in a highly musical family. Her parents, Adhémar and Thérèse, owned a small piano bar where the children frequently performed.
Dion’s journey to fame began at age 12 when she wrote her first song, “Ce n’était qu’un rêve,” (It was just a dream) with her mother and brother. They sent a demo tape to manager René Angélil, who was so moved by her voice that he mortgaged his home to fund her first album.
During the 1980s, she became a star in the French-speaking world. Until 1988 when she won the Eurovision Song Contest representing Switzerland. This was her motivation to learn English so she could reach a wider audience, leading to her international debut album, Unison, in 1990.
In 1991, she recorded the title track for Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, which made her famous in the United States. The duet earned her both a Grammy and an Academy Award. Following this success, she released several albums, including The Color of My Love and Falling into You, which won the Grammy for Album of the Year.
In 1997, she recorded “My Heart Will Go On” for the film Titanic. The song became her signature hit, reaching number one worldwide and winning the Oscar for Best Original Song. By the late 1990s, she had sold over 100 million albums globally.
In 2003, Dion began a residency at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. The show, A New Day…, became the highest-grossing residency of all time.

Throughout her career, her manager René Angélil remained her partner. The two married in 1994 and had three sons: René-Charles and twins Eddy and Nelson. Following René’s death in 2016, Dion continued to perform and release music, including the 2019 album Courage.
Dion has won five Grammy Awards and two Academy Awards. She is the best-selling Canadian artist in history and one of the best-selling artists of all time. In late 2022, she revealed she had been diagnosed with Stiff-Person Syndrome, a rare neurological disorder, forcing her to cancel tour dates to focus on her health.
